Volkswagen Golf TDI Hybrid Offers 70mpg

Think about driving to work and back and looking at your gas gauge. There’s usually a pretty big dent made from that round trip. But what if your gas gauge had not moved? That wouldn’t be hard to believe if your place of employment is down the street from your house, but if you’re like most of us, the commute is far greater. If you live thirty miles from work, you could go to and from work and burn a little less than one gallon of fuel. That is, of course, not the case with any vehicle, but it would be the case if you were tooling around in the Volkswagen Golf TDI Hybrid.
The Volkswagen Golf TDI Hybrid combines a diesel engine with a hybrid motor. Volkswagen has put a lot of time and money into researching this concept, and they have discovered that the combination leads to amazing gas mileage and low carbon emissions. In the past, Volkswagen has been more concerned with fuel mileage than it was with carbon emissions. It has favored diesel fueled vehicles as opposed to hybrid. Now, though, Volkswagen has shown that it can not only contribute the to hybrid revolution, but exceed expectations.
The vehicle boasts a stellar 69 miles per gallon. If that is not enough of a selling point, the motor also charges the car battery while the car is stopped. That allows for more driving time and less maintenance by the driver.
The diesel engine cuts off when the car is at a stop, and can then restart in an electric only mode while it gathers speed. That makes for a smoother transition between stopping and starting, which is something that is lacking in many hybrids.
While the Volkswagen Golf TDI Hybrid is currently only a concept car, Volkswagen has plans to produce it in the near future. It premiered at the Geneva Auto Show in March, and it appeared to be almost ready to hit the roads. With the new technology from Volkswagen, and the Golf concept car, consumers can expect for Volkswagen to make a great impact on the way we think of hybrid vehicles in the future.

Now this is a car I can go for. Love it!
69 miles per gallon!!!!!!
Hell, and I thought Chev knew it all!
Haven’t you guys heard of the Bluemotion?
On sale NOW in Europe, it is VW’s 75mpg non-hybrid diesel engined car. It is not a concept - it has been on sale for over a year.
And other European companies have had 70mpg cars for years. I bought mine in 2003.
Gareth,
We Americans are abit behind you guys in fuel technology. We are now playing ketchup, i mean catch-up.
Is the Bluemotion a tiny car? If so, i’m guessing that might be the reason it is NOT here. But we are slowly but surely wising up.
Yes!
