Verizon Going Green with Hybrid Vehicles

Verizon is jumping on the “Going Green” bandwagon and has plans to add an additional 100 hybrid sedans to its vehicle fleet; 16 of these will be added to the company’s Southern California operations. This addition will double Verizon’s current hybrid vehicle fleet (which include custom hybrid vans) leaving the company with more than 200 hybrids on the road. The expected annual savings include 16,000 gallons of fuel and a reduction of 1.4 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

“Minimizing the impact of our operations by conserving energy, increasing our recycling rates and finding practical as well as innovative solutions to environmental challenges are a part of how we operate our business,” said Tim McCallion, Verizon’s West region president. “As a broadband company, Verizon makes it possible for e-commerce to flourish and for our customers to telecommute or engage in distance learning; so we understand the important role technology must play in reducing the environmental impact of our operations.” (Source: Verizon)
