Vancouver Entrepreneur Creates Electric Ford Ranger

Jay Giraud is a Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada)-based entrepreneur who has a plan to green-up fleet vehicles in the city by converting the vehicles to either hybrid-electric or all-electric versions. The company, already doing business, is in the process of incorporating under the name of REV Technologies – Rapid Electric Vehicle. Giraud’s goal is to transform the way people look at transportation and plans to start with fleet vehicles.
Currently, Giraud has one conversion complete that he allows possible clients to use as a test vehicle. The Ford Ranger has had its standard gasoline engine, cooling system, exhaust and controller removed. In its place, the newly electric Ford Ranger has a total of 24 batteries.
In an article that appeared in the online edition of The Vancouver Courier:
“80% of all fleet vehicles in North America are Ford–and the “vast majority” of those are one of four models, one of which is the Ranger. To avoid having to come up with dozens of different conversion kits, REV Technologies initially will be converting only late-model Ford vehicles.†(Source: Lisa Smedman, Vancouver Courier, 10/22/08)

As a Ford Ranger owner this is fantastic news. I would LOVE to convert my truck into an EV. Hopefully these conversion kits will soon be mainstream.
Thanxs for the story!

Too many idiots are driving company owned trucks to work and back home. those trucks belongs to the company parking lot.. Those idiots should commute in a Focus or a Cobalt..
It sounds like you have something pretty good. Please describe how your vehicle would operate in a northern winter ie interior heater, vehicle freeze up, ice and snowcovered roads, cold morning startup,
Your vehicle may be effective in southern BC, with it’s mild winters, in northern Canada we have longer winters than summers and dependance on a vehicle that will operate is paramount. In any case good going, I’m proud of you
