The 2009 Chrysler Aspen Hybrid

As the fall approaches, consumers are starting to research the 2009 models.  The same holds true for those who drive with a more green motoring approach.  Chrysler has published details on the Fall 2008 release of the 2009 Chrysler Aspen Hybrid which will be available with the famed Hemi engine.  The Aspen isn’t your typical SUV and thus comes with a bit beefier of a price tag with an MSRP of $45.570.

Hybrid Two Mode Hemi

According to the official site of the 2009 Chrysler Aspen Hybrid, “The two-mode architecture is more efficient than traditional hybrid systems.  Elegantly sophisticated, the power train adjusts at different speeds to yield the most efficient use of power and improves fuel economy by more than 25% overall.”

Built Like an SUV

Even though the Aspen is a hybrid SUV, it is still built to look an act just like an SUV.  Of course this isn’t your neighbor’s SUV.  Special attention was taken to ensure that the body styling was made to get the most efficient out of the Hybrid Two Mode Hemi system.  In addition to the attention to detail on the outside, the engine was packed with 385 horsepower which allows the Aspen to tow up to 6,000 pounds.  Like I said, this isn’t your neighbor’s SUV.

The Real Deal

Alright the Aspen sounds like it is a great answer for SUV drivers that want to save a little money on gas and decrease their emissions but is it really that great?  From a non-green standpoint the vehicle looks to be a fantastic choice but the tree hugger in you may get a bit squeamish at the estimated 19 mpg city rating that the Aspen will likely be given.  Yes, 19mpg in a hybrid.  For $45k you’d be better off buying a couple of Honda Civics.

Even though the gas mileage is not something to brag about, the Chrysler Aspen Hybrid will exceed the standards of most of the consumers looking to purchase a Hybrid SUV.  For those die-hard Mopar fans, the hybrid has a Hemi.  That alone is worth the $45k price.  For those that are less loyal to Mopar models, the Aspen Hybrid offers a good alternative to the GM hybrid SUVs.
