Release Date of Toyota IQ Announced

In July, Kevin reported on the Toyota IQ microcar that made its original debut at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. There was no set date for release but the vehicle was expected to be available in Japan in late 2009. Well, here it is, late 2009 and Toyota has announced the official release date of the new Toyota IQ – November 20.
The Toyota IQ was the recipient of much media fanfare at the 2008 Paris Motor Show as the final production model was revealed. Toyota’s 50+ page press packet on the vehicle answers nearly every question a prospective IQ owner may have – except for one. Will the Toyota IQ be available in the United States? Unfortunately, there are no published plans for making the IQ available to consumers in the United States.
“Two engines will be available at launch – a 1.0 litre VVT-i petrol engine and a 1.4 litre D-4D engine. There is a choice of three types of transmission, including a newly developed ‘Multidrive’ transmission. All models conform to Euro IV regulations.†(Source: Toyota)
