Porsche Panamera Hybrid: Speed, Style, and Fuel Efficiency

Do you envision yourself as a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. type of driver, flying down the streets with your hair flapping in the wind, heads turning as you race by in a blur? Instead of living that dream, though, do you find yourself more often than not in the school zone of the street, left turn signal on, dropping the kids off and making sure they have their sack lunch? Is it possible to somehow reconcile the inner speed demon in all of us with the responsible, hard working person we have allowed ourselves become? For a little bit of cash, and some patience, it absolutely is.

When the Porsche Panamera Hybrid comes out around 2010, it will give the responsible side and the reckless side a chance to live together in one muscled sports car. For the responsible side, the Porsche Panamera hybrid engine boasts increased fuel efficiency. In fact, Porsche claims that it will have 30% better fuel efficiency than non hybrid Porsche models. For the fun, reckless side is the speed of the Panamera. The Porsche Panamera is expected to be the fastest hybrid available when it comes onto the market. It is a sports car that just happens to be a hybrid, instead of a sports car clone that looks good but drives like grandpa’s sedan.

Another draw to the Porsche Panamera is that it will be the first four door sports car to have fuel efficient full parallel hybrid technology. Even though it is a hybrid car, Porsche has taken certain measures to make sure that the style and Porsche name are able to come out. In order to keep with the sports car motif, Porsche designed it a little different than hybrids that are on the road today. While most hybrids keep the hybrid battery between the trunk and passenger seat, the Porsche Panamera will have the battery situated below the trunk. The weight distribution from the battery placement will improve the smoothness of the drive, making it a true Porsche.

Luxury cars are not known for their fuel efficiency, but the Porsche Panamera is definitely a huge step in the right direction. With the Porsche Panamera, adults are finally going to be given a responsible toy to have fun with.
