Official EPA Rating Available for Chrysler Aspen Hybrid

2009 Chrysler Aspen Hybrid

The Chrysler Aspen Hybrid (and its cousin the Dodge Durango Hybrid) has finally received its official EPA fuel efficiency ratings. Both vehicles, which come equipped with a HEMI engine, have been rated at 20 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. In its official press release, Chrysler LLC states that these vehicles are 53% more efficient in the city than their non-hybrid counterparts and 40% more efficient overall. Chrysler goes on to say that the fuel economy is better than that of a six-cylinder Honda Accord.

“Capable of towing 6,000 lbs., 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango hybrid vehicles deliver seamless, dependable power and performance on demand, in an efficient package. With an electrically variable transmission—featuring the best characteristics of an automatic transmission and hybrid drive—and two different hybrid modes of operation, the drive system dramatically improves fuel economy around town and at highway speeds. “ (Source: Chrysler Media Site)

Customers who purchase one of these two models may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $2,200. The Chrysler Aspen Hybrid has an MSRP starting price of $45,570 that Chrysler states is $8,000 below the competition. Based on my research, it appears that the price is being compared to the 4WD GMC Yukon Hybrid that has a 21 city/22 hwy mpg rating.
