No More Free Hybrid Parking in LA

In case you haven’t turned on a national news station lately, the State of California has been dealing with a multi-billion dollar budget deficit. A budget was signed this week but cities across the state have to cut back. The City of Los Angeles has placed the free hybrid parking on the chopping block.

“The council unanimously agreed to eliminate free parking for drivers of Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight or Ford Escape Hybrid models — a privilege in place for four years — on March 1.

The move could generate an additional $300,000 in parking meter revenue, according to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.” (Source: CBS2)

The CBS2 article goes on to report that all hybrids that park in a meter will receive a notice on their vehicle this month announcing the upcoming change. That certainly sounds like a waste of paper and human power.

The free hybrid parking is just one example of perks that hybrid car owners experience across the US.
