Nissan Latest Company to Pull Out of Detroit Auto Show

One of the most exciting things for me to cover is the debuts that come out of the world’s major auto shows. It is no surprise that the state of the economy is concerning and auto manufacturers are feeling the credit crunch, regardless of where they are based. Nissan North America has recently cited the lagging economy as the primary reason for the decision to remove itself from the Detroit Auto Show in January ‘09. The company has also pulled the plug on its plans to attend the Chicago Auto Show in February.
Right now, Nissan North America is knee-deep in LA Auto Show festivities. The LA Auto Show featured the world debuts of the 2009 Nissan Cube (EPA fuel efficiency ratings are not available but highway mpg should be in the 30+ range) and the 2009 Nissan 370Z (not a green vehicle by any definition of the term.) The all-new Nissan Altima Hybrid is also among the 40+ hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles on display at the LA Convention Center. Nissan had plans to unveil its entry into the United States commercial vehicle market at the Detroit Auto Show but obviously, that plan is on the backburner.
