Despite dwindling hybrid sales numbers and a 50% drop in gas prices over the past eight or nine months, a new survey shows that interest in alternative fuel vehicles is on the rise. The study was conducted by the Automotive Research Group of Maritz Research and shows that consumers in the United States are more interested in the various alternative fuel vehicles available on the market.

“The appeal share for electric vehicles has grown in the past three years from 3.4 percent in 2006, to 6.6 percent in 2007, and now 9.4 percent. Interest is higher among those who purchased or leased a car, as opposed to a light truck, in the last three years.” (Source: PR Newswire)

In the New Vehicle Customer Study, consumers were asked to choose from seven alternative fuel choices. Diesel, hybrids and electric vehicles ranked in the top three spots; the other choices were solar, methane, propane/LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and biodiesel.

Now is your chance to weigh in, vote in The Green Motorist’s poll to the right, “Which alternative fuel do you think will have the greatest impact on reducing emissions?”
