Hybrids at the 2008 Paris Motor Show

The Peugeot RC Hybrid

The 2008 Paris Motor Show will be held from October 4-19 and will feature several hybrid concept cars. As much as I’d love to combine a trip to Paris with a glimpse at some fantastic cars, it just isn’t in the budget this year. The 2008 Mondial de l’Automobile promises to bring some exciting new hybrids to the attention of green motorists around the world.

Peugeot RC Hybrid
Peugeot will debut the new RC hybrid concept car at this year’s show. In shows of the past, Peugeot has displayed a few other RC models but this year’s vehicle will be a four-door GT model that is expected to have up to 313 base horsepower as well as drastically reduced emissions.

Honda’s New Hybrid
Dubbed the “Prius-killer” by green bloggers everywhere, the 2009 Honda Hybrid will make its first public appearance at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. Even though the vehicle hasn’t made an official appearance, spy photos of the car have already been plastered around the web. Honda is being quite tight-lipped about the new car’s name but the latest news on the sub-$19k hybrid claim that the car will be released for public purchase on April 22, 2009 – Earth Day.

Suzuki SX4 FCV
The fuel-cell powered Suzuki SX4 FCV five-door (four doors plus a hatchback) vehicle will also be making an appearance at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. From the Suzuki press release:

“The latest two fuel-cell models will be exhibited in Paris: the first is the SX4 FCV and is equipped with a GM-made high-performance fuel cell stack, a Suzuki-developed 70MPa hydrogen tank, and a light, compact capacitor. The second is the “crosscage” that features a simple, compact, and lightweight air-cooled fuel-cell power system from British specialist company Intelligent Energy, plus a high-performance lithium-ion secondary battery.”

Chevy Volt
The long-awaited Chevy Volt is expected to appear at the 2008 Paris show in its full production state. There has been some conjecture about whether the Volt will be released in 2009 or 2010 but after October the public will have a better idea of exactly what the Volt is going to be like once it hits production.

  1. I’ve liked the Crosscage ever since I first saw pics of it some time ago. If it has a decent price, range, and speed, I might consider replacing my current Suzuki bike with it. However, my next commuter vehicle will need to have A/C, so it’ll likely involve more than two wheels… :) I’m therefore very curious to see their SX4 FCV, along with all the other cars you’ve listed here. Nice site! Keep up the good work.

  2. Thanks Suman. Yes a/c is a nice addition. The SX4 FCV definitely piques my interest. Oh how I wish I could take a “quick” trip to Paris.

  3. Just saw more pics of the Peugeot concept over on Auto Express (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/226842/peugeots_hybrid_concept.html) - that car is gorgeous! Too bad it won’t be available in the U.S.
