Although economic doom and gloom is splattered across the news, companies are still investing and Fisker Automotive is set to receive an $85 million venture capital boost. The funds will be used on the company’s plug-in hybrid, the Karma, which should hit the streets later this year.

“The investment by Eco-Drive and Kleiner Perkins validates our vision of joining together the advances in technology for plug-in hybrid powertrains with the ecochic beauty and eco-conscious comfort of the Fisker Karma. We are proud to have Eco-Drive behind us, and to see Kleiner Perkins reaffirm its confidence in our future direction,” said Henrik Fisker, Fisker Automotive CEO. “This investment is a strong endorsement of our business model and future product offerings in a challenging business environment.” (Source: PR Newswire)

A lot of Fisker news has hit automotive blogs lately including the expansion of its retailer network and the fact that the vehicle was one of the finalists for the Green Car Vision Award.
