Plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles are certainly getting a significant amount of press, especially when compared to other alternative fuels (hydrogen, E85, etc). Now automakers are preparing for a significant increase of plug-in hybrids and all electric vehicles in Europe by 2011. I have already asked the question, will 2010 be the year of the electric vehicle but was thinking domestically. Now the question begs to be asked, will 2011 be the year of the electric vehicle in Europe?

“Automakers in Europe plan new business models for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids before 2011. The business models will eliminate the need for gasoline stations. Energy will be supplied by utility companies. The automakers also will need to take into account the life span of batteries, which will depreciate and wear out quicker than the cars themselves.

Toyota Motor Corp., Daimler, Renault-Nissan, Volvo and General Motors are among the carmakers that plan to bring plug-in hybrids and full-electric cars to market in 2011.” (Source: Automotive News Europe)
