EPA Announces Most Fuel Efficient Vehicles for 2009

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released its list of most fuel-efficient vehicles for model year 2009. Topping the list is the Toyota Prius that has a 48 mpg city rating and a 45 mpg highway rating. Of course, seeing the Prius at the top of this list is no surprise. It will be interesting to see if the 2009 Honda Insight, scheduled to be released in the spring of 2009, will knock the Prius off the top spot.
Coming in second place is the Honda Civic Hybrid with a city/highway mpg rating of 40/45. The others in the top ten in order from third through tenth are the Nissan Altima Hybrid (35/33), Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute/Mercury Mariner hybrids (34/31), Smart Fortwo Convertible/Coupe (33/41), Toyota Camry Hybrid (33/34), Volkswagen Jetta & Sportwagen manual/diesel at 30/41, Volkswagen Jetta & Sportwagen automatic/diesel (29/40), Toyota Yaris manual (29/36) and the Toyota Yaris automatic (29/35).
