Renault Announces Twingo dCi 85 eco2

Renault has announced the details about the latest model to join the Twingo lineup - the dCi 85 eco2. The vehicle, which will be available in France in January 2009, has CO2 emissions of 104 g/km and has a fuel efficiency of 4.0 liters/100 km. For those of us who are not on the metric system - the fuel consumption is right around 59 miles per gallon.

The dCi 85 eco2 will play on Twingo’s best-selling car in its class status in France and one of the top three best-selling vehicles in its class in all of Europe.

“Not only is this respectful of the environment but it also makes the car more economical to run for its owner. Such a low level of CO2 emissions enables customers to benefit, too, from the different ‘eco’ incentives that have been introduced in certain European countries. These can vary from €700 in France to 15% of the purchase price in Belgium.” (Source: Renault Presse

It is official; the 2008 Paris Motor Show is underway. Renault has announced its plans for its newest concept, the Renault Z.E. Concept. Z.E. stands for Zero Emissions; the Z.E. Concept is an electric vehicle that runs on a lithium-ion battery base and is expected to have a 70 kW engine producing 226 Nm of torque.

“Based on the brand new Renault Kangoo be bop, Z.E. Concept features a design which has been adapted to match the spirit of an electric vehicle, with the focus on minimizing energy consumption while at the same time providing core comfort features.” (Source: Renault)

Renault has created several alliances with countries around the world and even the State of Tennessee in order to further its electric vehicle technology. Understanding the fact that auxiliary equipment like air conditioning, lighting, etc can zap an electric vehicle’s power, Renault is focusing on minimizing the impact that these functions have on the cars overall power usage.
