2010 Toyota Prius at Detroit Auto Show

Finally, some exciting news to come out about the Detroit-based North American International Auto Show - the 2010 Toyota Prius will make its world debut.
The press release was short and sweet; here it is in its entirety:
Toyota Motor Sales (TMS),U.S.A., Inc. will stage the world premiere of the all-new 2010 Toyota Prius at a press conference at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The all-new Toyota Prius, with a substantially revised Hybrid Synergy Drive system, will deliver improved mileage, improved performance and a host of innovative new features.
The press conference will be held on Monday, January 12 at 11:30 AM Eastern Time in the Riverview Ballroom in COBO Center and simulcast live to the Toyota display area at the show. A video clip of the press conference will be available for viewing following the event on the Toyota.com website. Source: Toyota
This is fantastic news especially in light of recent media about automakers pulling out of the Detroit show due to the rough economic situation that auto manufacturers are facing. Honda plans to be at the show but is scaling back the publicity surrounding the debut of the production version of the Honda Insight, which will go on sale in the spring of 2009.
Companies that have announced their withdrawal from the North American International Auto Show include Nissan, Mitsubishi, Land Rover, Rolls-Royce and Suzuki. The Detroit area really does not need more auto manufacturing woes but today’s announcement from Toyota should definitely provide a bit of a boost to the show.
I, for one, am enthusiastic about the 2010 Toyota Prius. Sign me up for one now - minus the interesting graphics coming out of the plug image though.
