2010 Honda Insight Hybrid – Production Model

Up until now, the information released about the exciting Honda Insight has all been concept-based information. Even the model that was revealed at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and then shown at the 2008 LA Motor Show was still considered the concept model. The production model was revealed this past week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The information made available with the concept debut of the 2010 Honda Insight was that the vehicle’s MSRP would be approximately $18,500. The press release for the production model does not include a price but the Honda Insight will be less expensive than the Civic Hybrid.
Now that the vehicle has emerged from concept stage to production stage, the EPA has provided official fuel efficiency ratings: 40 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway. This is slightly less than the Ford Fusion hybrid’s city fuel efficiency rating of 41 miles per gallon – the other new hybrid on the market this year.
In addition to the base model, a Honda Insight EX will also be available once the vehicle goes on sale in April 2009.
“Insight EX models add alloy wheels, cruise control, 6-speaker audio system with USB audio interface, steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters, Honda Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) and an available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ with Voice Recognition.†(Source: Honda)
The stagnant economy and the credit crunch may have an effect on how well the Insight sells. It has several things going for it most notably the Honda brand name and the price point. In a few short months, we will have sales figures for the 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid.
