The 2009 model of the Ford Escape Hybrid (as well as the Mercury Mariner Hybrid) will feature several enhancements over the 2008 and earlier models. The biggest change in the 2009 model will be the use of Ford’s new 2.5-liter I-4 engine; this new engine is also included in the non-hybrid models. Additionally, “The Hybrids’ braking system also has been refined. Engineers achieved a more seamless transition from electric regenerative braking system to traditional braking operation. A new brake pedal sensor is at the heart of the improvements†{Source: Ford Escape Hybrid Media Kit.)
In addition to the enhancements listed above, Ford is introducing a new model to its Escape Hybrid line. The Ford Escape Limited Hybrid comes with 16-inch aluminum wheels, exterior chrome accents, six-disc CD changer, interior chrome and ebony accents, heated seats, power moon roof and ambient lighting.
Fuel economy on the FWD model is rated at 34 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway. The four-wheel drive Ford Escape Hybrid is rated at 29 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway.
