MotorWeek has announced the 2009 Drivers’ Choice Awards winners at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show and the Volkswagen Jetta TDI takes home the top honors. The vehicle was awarded the “Best of the Year” award by MotorWeek, a PBS program.

“Having the Jetta TDI clean diesel awarded MotorWeek’s “Best of the Year” 2009 Drivers’ Choice Award is a tremendous honor for the Volkswagen brand,” said Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO, Volkswagen of America. “This award is testimony that drivers agree the 2009 Jetta TDI clean diesel provides an environmentally responsible choice, and a spirited and passionate driving experience.” (Source: PR Newswire)

The Volkswagen Jetta TDI was also named the Best Eco-Friendly vehicle of 2009 while the fuel-efficient Honda Fit was named Best Small Car.

The Volkswagen Jetta TDI has received a lot of attention since being named the 2009 Green Car of the Year. In January, the vehicle received the Earth, Wind & Power Award during the presentation of the International Car of the Year Awards. The Jetta TDI was also a finalist in the 2009 Urban Car of the Year and the 2009 North American Car of the Year competitions.
